Appeal for compliance with Alert Level 4 restrictions as new virus strain in North Wales
Council Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi, and Chief Executive, Annwen Morgan are appealing to Anglesey residents and communities to comply with the all-Wales Alert Level 4 restrictions.
On Saturday evening, First Minister Mark Drakeford announced that a new, significantly more infectious strain of the virus was widespread. Cases have already been identified across North Wales.
Despite the current low number of cases on Anglesey, the new strain has a rapid growth rate, which can quickly transfer between people.
Cllr Llinos Medi, said, “As a mother of two young children myself, I’m intensely aware of the huge disappointment and frustration felt by families and communities across the whole Island. Christmas is such an important time of year which we should all be enjoying with families and friends; and losing what we hold so dear, and have taken for granted for so long, is extremely tough.”
Annwen Morgan, added, “The number of positive cases on Anglesey is currently low, but the wider situation is difficult. This new strain could spread quickly and decisively across Anglesey if normal festive traditions continue during Christmas in 2020. This year is different.
“I appeal to everyone to keep themselves, families, friends and Anglesey’s communities safe by complying fully with the restrictions. There will be other, more appropriate times, to come together.”
